Session Overview and Rates
CBT treatment will usually require between 6 and 20 sessions. It is rare that treatment continues beyond 20 sessions. Each session will be 50 minutes in length*.
I initially offer a free 30 minute video or telephone consultation to hear about your difficulties and determine whether CBT is the right option to meet your needs. If so, I will provide an overview of what the sessions will involve and you can then take some time to decide if I am the right fit for you.
If we do agree to work together, each 50-minute session will be charged at £60. If a block booking of 6 sessions is made and paid for in advance, I offer a 10% discount (please note that block bookings are non-refundable).
All sessions will take place weekly via video conferencing and you will be sent a link to join the session prior to your appointment time. I will provide details of how to access the sessions by email, after we have agreed to work together.
If you would prefer to access treatment in person, I am able to offer sessions from a central location in Stroud however there is typically a much longer wait for this. Please do enquire about in person sessions if this is your preference. In person sessions are priced at £75 for 50 minutes.
Below is an outline of a typical course of treatment:
Assessment Phase (1-2 sessions)
Assessment of your difficulties, understanding the problem, and creating clear goals for treatment
Treatment Phase (4-18 sessions)
Learning new ways of thinking about and responding to your difficulties. This will include setting between-session tasks each week for you to complete and reviewing your progress the following week.
Ending Phase (1-2 sessions)
Reviewing progress towards goals and developing a plan to allow you to continue to make progress beyond therapy. Essentially, enabling you to become your own therapist.
*For treatment of PTSD, some sessions may need to be 90 minutes in length, this will be discussed and agreed at the time.
FAQs
What if I am unwell and can’t make a session?
If you need to cancel a session, I request that you provide me with 48 hours’ notice by email, telephone call, or text message. If less than 48 hours’ notice is provided then I reserve the right to charge for the appointment, although I of course understand that there are some instances where it is not possible to give such notice and will be mindful of this. I will not charge for missed appointments unless 2 or more short notice cancellations are made during the course of treatment.
I will make every effort to adhere to agreed appointments and will only cancel if absolutely necessary. I will also endeavour to provide 48 hours’ notice in the rare instance of cancellation. I will provide dates for any planned leave at least 3 weeks’ in advance of our scheduled appointment.
Can I take medication whilst accessing CBT?
Yes, some people who begin CBT are already taking medication prescribed by a healthcare professional to help with their symptoms. Any queries regarding medication will need to be discussed with your GP as this is not something that I am able to advise on.
What if I have an alcohol or substance dependency too?
It is recommended that you get help to manage your dependency before accessing CBT. This is because the dependency may get in the way of you making the changes that you want to make by accessing CBT. You can get help with alcohol/substance difficulties by contacting your GP or visiting https://www.changegrowlive.org/.
What if I have an eating disorder?
I am not currently trained to offer treatment for eating disorders. If this is something that you are struggling with, please contact your GP in the first instance.
Can you help me with suicidal thoughts or self-harm?
Many people who experience mental health difficulties, also experience suicidal thoughts. This is something we will talk about together in our initial appointment. If you are worried that you will act on your thoughts or are currently self-harming, it may be that you need more support than I can offer in the first instance. If this is the case, please see the 'Crisis Support' section below.
